How to Look After Your Wedding Dress
Firstly you need to save the original bag your wedding dress came in when you purchased it.
Find yourself a professional dry cleaner, preferably one that cleans wedding dresses/gowns as a specialtly. Try asking friends, family or the bridal shop you purchased the original wedding dress from for recommendations.
Once your wedding day is over it is recommended that you take your dress to the dry cleaner as soon as possible. Tell the cleaner about any stains, a drop of champagne, a smudge of lipstick from the first kiss etc. Tell them about any special glues that may have been used to stick small pieces of lace or beads etc., as these can come off easily during the cleaning process, With all this information the dry cleaner can ensure that the best possible care is given to your wedding dress throughout cleaning.
You can also ask your dry cleaner for a special acid free box to store your cleaned wedding attire in, this can then be packed with acid free tissue as well. You can also hang your wedding dress by the bodice by the sewing straps that are shorter than the bodice onto the waist, place this onto a padded coat hanger, and wrap carefully in a clean white cotton sheet.
Once you have packed your dress, you need to store it in a dry place, out the way of direct sunlight.
Each wedding anniversary check your dress for any discoloured areas, missed stains, and allow your wedding dress to breathe for a bit, and return to the box until next year.
